• What is rapeseed oil?
  • Rapeseed oil third largest source of edible oil after soya bean oil and Palm Oil. Europe alone contributes six million tons to the world market. The seed is mechanically pressed or pressed to extract 50% to 75% of the Oil content in the seed before sending to solvent extraction to make the process more efficient.
  • How is rapeseed extracted?
  • The seed is mechanically pressed or pressed to extract 50% to 75% of the Oil content in the seed before sending to solvent extraction to make the process more efficient. The Rapeseeds contain some legume shells, impurities, sand and stones etc. These materials are followed during the harvest at the time of collection.
  • Does water content affect rapeseed oil yield?
  • For the rapeseed, a decrease in oil yield with higher water content was observed in continuous pressing (Grosleron 2009; Vadke and Sosulski 1988), while in discontinuous process (in the same range of water content), the oil yield increases (Koo 1942; Lanoisell¨¦ 1995).
  • How to remove impurities from rapeseeds?
  • The Rapeseeds contain some legume shells, impurities, sand and stones etc. These materials are followed during the harvest at the time of collection. These impurities are to be removed for smooth Operation of the plant. A rotary drum sieve in combination with vibratory cleaner followed by aspiration channel will be used to remove major impurities.
  • How to flake cracked rapeseed?
  • This process will soften the cracked beans make it suitable to good flaking. The Cooked and conditioned cracked rapeseeds are passed through a pair of chilled cast iron rolls fixing specific gap of 0.2mm to 0.35mm to rupture the oil cells where the it will come on the surface and then used to extract with use of solvent.
  • How to soften rapeseed?
  • As explained rapeseeds are required to condition to make it soften. A vertical stack cooker or horizontal rotary cookers are used to condition the cracked seeds by heating with jacketed and live steam to 65 C to 70 C and increasing the moisture to 11% to 12%. This process will soften the cracked beans make it suitable to good flaking.
