Efficient, low-cost methods are required to produce impurity-free bio-oils with minimal nutrient depletion. This study investigated the effect of extraction and pretreatment conditions on the quality of rice bran oil extracted with CO2-expanded hexane. The extraction conditions considered were temperature (20–30 °C), CO2 mole fraction (0.76–0.94), and pressure (4.2–7.0 MPa). The
CO 2 -expanded hexane is used to extract phosphorus-free bio-oil from rice bran, which constitutes the main byProduct of the rice milling process, containing approximately 20–25 wt% oil. Optimal extraction conditions, namely 25 °C temperature, 5.1 MPa pressure, 0.87 CO 2 mole fraction, and 0.2 mol CO 2 -expanded hexane per gram of rice bran

Rice is one of the most important crops throughout the world, as it contributes toward satisfying the food demand of much of the global population. It is well known that rice Production generates a considerable number of by-Products, among which rice bran deserves particular attention. This by-Product is exceptionally rich in nutrients, since it contains a wide spectrum of macronutrients
- How to extract RBO from rice bran?
- MAE is a potential method for extracting RBO with higher oil purity, increased oil production, and reduced extraction duration. Extraction efficiency with microwave is 80% of the total oil content available in rice bran. The extraction of solvents Hexane as a solvent is an efficient approach for RBO extraction.
- Which solvent is used in rice bran oil extraction?
- The solvents applied in the extraction processes are generally organic compounds derived from non-renewable sources . Hexane is the most common solvent used in rice bran oil extraction . This solvent is cheap and efficient, but it is a petroleum-based solvent, volatile, flammable, and dangerous for humans and for the environment .
- What is the extraction efficiency of rice bran oil?
- The extraction efficiency of rice bran oil is 25¨C26% by weight basis. This technique was initially used to separate proteins, enzymes, and lipids but is now used to extract bioactive such as oils, oleoresins, and polysaccharides from plant sources. Rice bran extraction efficiency is 79% of total oil content using Proteases and Protizyme.
- How much oil can be extracted from rice bran?
- Their results show that it is possible to obtain a maximum oil yield of 20.05 g/100 g rice bran in a three-hour extraction in ethanol with 6% of water at 82.5 ¡ãC, with a 4:1 w/w solvent-to-bran ratio and a stirring speed of 137.5 rpm. The – oryzanol content varies between 1527 and 4164 mg/kg of fresh rice bran.
- What are the different types of rice extraction?
- Green extraction . Supercritical fluid extraction . Microwave-assisted extraction . Ultrasound-assisted extraction . Enzyme-assisted aqueous extraction . Subcritical water extraction Rice represents one of the most important food crops in the world, accounting for around 20% of the dietary energy intake of the global population .
- What is rice bran used for?
- This by-product represents around 9% of all milled rice, and it is full of nutritional and bioactive compounds, but despite these positive proprieties, it is usually wasted or used for animal feeds. Rice bran is particularly rich in oil, which is generally extracted by means of mechanical pressing or or-ganic solvent extraction.
