This study evaluates the effect of extraction methods on rapeseed oil polyphenols and their inhibitory activity on anaerobic choline metabolism, a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Hot pressing produces the highest amount of polyphenols, especially sinapine, which shows good binding affinity toward CutC enzyme.
Effect of enzyme treatment at low water content on oil extraction and oil quality. Table 2 summarises the water contents of the flaked rapeseeds before and after addition of 1:1 mixtures of CC and VZ at enzyme dosages of 0.05–0.5 mL per 100 g rapeseed. The water content of the untreated rapeseeds was significantly lower than that of rapeseeds

The oleosome extraction yield was calculated based on the difference between the amount of oil in the initial seeds (36.5 ± 1.3) and the amount of oil in the cake. This calculation assumed that all the extracted oil was expected to be either in the form of native oleosomes or emulsified oil.

Cold pressing is frequently used to produce high-quality vegetable oils, especially from seeds with high oil content, such as rapeseeds. But, it encounters a challenge from the industrial demand for high oil yield. Modeling the cold pressing process using experimental and statistical approaches would help to understand the effects of cold pressing conditions on oil yield and process efficacy
- What is the best extraction method for rapeseed oil?
- Taken together, hot pressing can be considered the best extraction method for rapeseed oil from the perspective of phenolic compounds.
- How rapeseed oil is extracted by cold pressing compared to Soxhlet Method?
- The crude oil extraction degree achieved by cold pressing was 60.8% compared to the Soxhlet method. The rapeseed oil contains predominantly oleic, linoleic, linolenic, and palmitic acids, agreeing with other reported rapeseed oils.
- Does extraction technology affect rapeseed oil functional quality?
- Extraction technology can influence the vegetable oil functional quality. Polyphenols in rapeseed oil have been proved to be beneficial for cardiovascular health. In this study, we evaluated the effect of extraction methods on the functional quality of rapeseed oil from the perspective of phenolic compounds.
- How much rapeseed oil can be extracted by cold pressing?
- A nozzle diameter of 10 mm, a screw frequency of 50 Hz, and a press head temperature of 80 ¡ãC ensured the maximum pressed rapeseed oil yield of 26.65% within the applied experimental domain. The crude oil extraction degree achieved by cold pressing was 60.8% of the rapeseed oil yield obtained by the Soxhlet method.
- How is rapeseed oil prepared by the AEE method?
- The preparation of rapeseed oil by the AEE method was performed according to our earlier research.9 Briefly, the ratio of rapeseed to water was 1:5 (w:v), under the conditions of 50 ¡ãC and pH 4.5, and 3% composite cell wall polysaccharide enzyme was added.
- How are rapeseed seeds extracted?
- The rapeseeds were milled using a laboratory mill (A11 basic, IKA, Germany) and sieved into 1 mm fractions. The obtained fraction of seed material (about 20 g) was treated with petroleum ether (b.p. 60¨C90 ¡ãC) within 7 h. The extraction of the seed oil was done in triplicate. The oil content of the seeds was 40.9?¡À?0.1%.
