  • What is Girassol crude oil?
  • Girassol crude oil is a blackish-green viscous liquid petroleum product produced from the distillation of Angola¡¯s heavy crude oil. It is a byproduct of the oil production process and is primarily used as a feedstock for diesel fuel and kerosene production. The price of Girassol crude oil varies greatly depending on the global price of crude oil.
  • How much oil does Girassol produce a day?
  • Girassol estimated reserves are around 630 million barrels of crude oil. The field started producing in December 2001, and the average production from Girassol is now roughly 240,000 bpd (barrels per day). The subsea production system includes 39 wells and 23 producers.
  • Where is the Girassol project located?
  • The $2.8bn Girassol project is located within Block 17, about 210km north-northwest of Luanda, Angola. It lies in 1,350m of water and was developed using a subsea facility tied back to a floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO). Base-case reserves of the African field are approximately 630 million barrels of 32¡ã API crude oil.
  • How many barrels of oil can a Girassol FPSO store?
  • It provides a total injection capacity of 800,000 cubic metres of gas per day. The Girassol FPSO can treat more than 200,000 barrels of oil per day and store two million barrels of crude oil. It was built Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in 2001 at construction sites in Lobito and Soyo in Angola.
