  • With this method, no solvents are used in the process, and therefore there¡¯s no chance of having any hexane residue left over. An expeller press is a screw-type machine which presses oil through a caged barrel-like-cavity, using friction and continuous pressure. The screw drives forward to literally squeeze the oil from the compressed seeds.

  • This increase in pressure resulted in the rupture of seed cell walls forming a porous structure. The disruption of cell walls facilitated the oil release during hot pressing leading to an increase in the canola oil yield in MW cooked flaked seeds (P < 0.05) compared with steam cooked flaked seeds.
